Networking Happy Hour

BRG Newsletter September 30, 2014

Our speaker today was Amy Betancur. She was born in Colombia and raised in New York. She is the youngest of 11 siblings; eight sisters and two brothers! She has lived in Miami since 1986. Amy’s most important accomplishment was raising her two daughters.

Amy holds a Paralegal degree from Rollins College. She has been a banker for over 25 years. She has experience in international and domestic banking, and what she most enjoys about her career is dealing with people and helping them achieve their goals and dreams.

As Vice President of EverBank, she manages the Coral Gables Branch and is responsible for overall business development in the Miami-Dade County market.

Amy explained that EverBank is offering the new 3-year MarketSafe BRICS CD now through October 15, 2014, with currencies from the major emerging market economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (the BRICS nations). Collectively, the BRICS nations account for nearly 40% of the world population and approximately 18% of the world economy. The BRICS Development Bank was created in July 2014 to enable even faster growth of their respective economies and a foundation for growth. The investment is safe, because if the dollar outperforms the currency indices, you’ll still get back all of your deposited principal upon CD maturity.

Thanks Amy for all the useful information!

There will be no meeting on October 7 because our Annual BRG Board Installation Dinner will be on Wednesday, October 8, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. (Cocktails and Appetizers), 7:30 -9:30 p.m. (Dinner). Location: Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar, 2525 Ponce de Leon Blvd, Coral Gables.

Today’s speaker was Justo Rico with Rainbow Reproductions. Justo and Julie have been serving the printing, copying and graphic design needs of the South Florida community for 24 years. They provide customized service, and take the time to work with you to accomplish your project.

Rico is devoted to the artistic and production side of the shop, and comes from a long line of printers. He has worked in the industry most of his life, and is constantly keeping up with changes, trends and new products.

Julie loves interacting with people, so she is in charge of marketing, networking and visiting clients. She has served on the Kendall Business Association Board for the past 7 years, and is currently the 2014 Chairperson.

When not working at the shop, the Rico’s can be found at Bay Community Church or playing with their grandchildren.

Justo explained that the US Postal Service offers Every Door Direct Mail. It is designed to help you reach every home, every address, every time. But you need to follow certain parameters for your mailpieces, including sizes, address formats, etc.

Your mailpiece cannot be boring, because people will not read it. You can include gift cards, scratch offs, 3D cards, and so on. It is also important that you find out who is your audience, you need to map out a target area, and use demographic data (e.g. age, household income, and size). To save costs, you can also find someone that you trust that has the same target as you do, and do the mailing together.

Thanks, Justo for all the useful and interesting information!
